As the Chesapeake Bay continues to experience pollution from garbage and runoff waters, algae blooms grow in numbers when the summer season arrives. untitled frame, substrate is a reaction to the harmfulness of the blooms on the bay and how this synthesis of pollution-caused algae and bay life leads to the demise of living creatures below.
frame ; Just as the blooms deprive and suffocate the plants and animals that live beneath, the framed collage intends to show not only how the layers of polluted waters contribute to the problem, but that the real issue starts in our towns and cities and by humans.
substrate ; As the substrate shows a positivity of what could be, it is also littered with elements that are not pure for the growth of healthy oysters. It aims to start a conversation of how to solve the true problem of the bay’s health. Perhaps tossing concrete into the bay isn’t where we should begin, but keeping the water clean and beginning the clean up of how humans treat the environment.
